"Another Planet is not your typical documentary. Rather, it takes the viewer on an astonishing journey within the scope of a CG model of Auschwitz, where pensive, animated interviews with the creators of this virtual reconstruction are conducted  among the historical monuments of extermination." - Ha'aretz

This unique, animated documentary about virtual encounters in simulations of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Extermination Camp is a rare journey into the depths of reconstructed memory. In its innovative use of technology for a multi-dimensional exploration of history and trauma, 'Another Planet' shows how recreated virtual environments can provide essential layers for elevating discussion, healing, and commemoration.

The virtual simulations of Auschwitz-Birkenau Extermination Camp have been created for different reasons: a German prosecution office designed a simulation in order to investigate a 94-year-old defendant; a 27-year-old Israeli software developer is inspired by a belief in reincarnation to reconstruct his previous life as a Sonderkommando; and a German architect who has been surveying the camp for 15 years is building a highly accurate computerized model in concert with an Israeli historian.

This innovative documentary is constructed as a mosaic in which the avatars of each of these creators walk around the virtual camps and explore their reasons for doing so.  Gradually, a deeper layer of the film is revealed: the obsession with reconstructing the 'Other Planet' – or the insatiable urge to document and enrich the historical and cultural memory of the Holocaust.

48 minutes, in Hebrew, German and Polish / English subtitles.
Directed by: Amir Yatziv
